PREFACE

I have two goals for writing this book. First, I want to provide information that will give organizational leaders a deeper, broader understanding of Latinos and their culture. Without this knowledge, non-Latinos may be confused and misunderstand Latino behaviors and attitudes that are reflective of that culture. The insights gained from reading this book will help you recognize when cultural differences may be the root cause of problems experienced within a workforce that has an increasing Latino population. After reading this book, you will be better able to see the workplace as Latinos see it, providing the foundation for building crucial bridges of understanding. The rapid growth in the U.S. Latino population along with their rising purchasing power provides a significant business incentive for acquiring this understanding. In addition to being good for business, this understanding has a positive impact on our society as a whole. This book was written for business leaders, human resource executives, diversity practitioners, and managers—the people who are often charged with creating inclusive work environments and developing talent management initiatives.

The second goal is to enhance the experience of Latinos in the workplace so that they feel validated, appreciated, heard, and accepted.
