Summary
In this chapter, we have learned to create tables and figures, and how to place them within our document. Specifically, we dealt with:
- Putting text into columns
- Typesetting tables with captions
- Spanning columns and rows in tables
- Using packages to auto-fit columns and to create colored, landscape, and even multi-page tables
- Including pictures with captions
- Controlling and tuning placement of figures and tables
LaTeX is able to generate lists of tables and figures like a table of contents. We shall deal with such lists in Chapter 7, Listing Contents and References.
As our figures and tables are numbered, we can use these numbers to refer to them within the text. In the next chapter, we shall figure out how to do this, benefitting from LaTeX's cross-referencing ...
