Abstract

This chapter reviews the state-of-the-art laser surface texturing using ultra-short pulsed lasers. The interaction of ultra-short pulsed laser beams with materials results in the formation of periodic or full self-assembled structures that mimic textured patterns in micro and nano-scales. Laser pulses with duration of nano- to femto-second with a variety of wavelengths can create the self-assembled structures; however, their shape, geometrical features and distribution are strongly dependent on the process parameters such as laser pulse frequency, laser pulse energy, and interaction time.
