Chapter 15. Network Operations and Management

This chapter examines the general network-management task, and provides some specific recommendations for sustaining and evolving large networks. The discussion centers around the five functional areas of network management originally defined by the International Standards Organization (ISO): fault, configuration, security, accounting, and performance. Some of this information is specific to the Cisco IOS, although many of the ideas are generally applicable to any large network. The approach is pragmatic and focuses on issues that, if not handled properly, can cause scaling difficulties.
