6.5. Summary

Developing large-scale distributed systems is a complex, error-prone task. There are many technologies required as the basis for a complete solution to constructing enterprise-scale solutions using components. In this chapter we have examined the three key areas where some agreements over these technologies have emerged over the past few months: component modeling notation, component repository, and the component models guiding the component infrastructure. In each of these areas broadly similar approaches now exist. Consequently, they form the core of many current component-oriented tool suites, architectures, and strategies.
