While looking at tools and projects as components, the img project, which is hosted under genuinetools.org and is available on GitHub at https://github.com/genuinetools/img, is really worth noting. The examples in this book have all used Docker to build container images, and img builds on the underlying toolkit that the team at Docker has been evolving from their product to support creating containers. Most importantly, the img project allows for the creation of Docker images without a Daemon or running with significant privileges. This makes creating containers far more amenable to being built within a Kubernetes cluster, or more generally without having to give the process extensive permissions to the system hosting it.
