Spring Boot is a web application framework that was designed and developed for the purpose of the boot strapping and development of Spring applications. Spring is a web application framework that facilitates the development of web applications for the Java platform. Spring Boot makes creating industrial-strength production-grade spring-based applications easy.

We will explore how to create web applications with Spring Boot over the course of this chapter, but now is not the time for that. Before we start developing the application, we must specify what the application actually does (we cannot build something when we don't know how it works, after all).
