South African businesses usually follow the British model, with a workweek that begins on Monday and ends on Friday. The difference is that the workday often starts at 7:30 A.M. with a breakfast meeting. Lunch may start at 12:30 P.M., and dinner at 7:00 or 7:30 P.M.

Since the sun rises at 6:00 A.M. and sets by 6:00 P.M., many appointments (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner) run at hours more similar to those in the United States than in Europe or Latin America. For those who commute from Pretoria to Johannesburg, traffic jams can start as early as 6:00 A.M.!
