DO I KISS, BOW, OR SHAKE HANDS?

SHAKE HANDS

Russian men sometimes hug and kiss other men on both cheeks, but they reserve these greetings for close friends. (Interestingly, greetings are the only time Russians typically exhibit physical contact in public. For example, it is uncommon for Russian couples to kiss in public.)

Russian men shake hands with other men. They may wait for a woman to extend her hand before shaking.

Russian businesswomen usually shake hands with other women.

Typically, upon first meetings, Russians will state their name when shaking hands with someone. You should do the same.

Direct eye contact is key. Do not let your gaze waver. And do not be taken by surprise if Russians stare at you.
