1. In general, you will be introduced to senior executives by a third party. This could be your representative in Japan, your interpreter, or one of the managers who works for the senior executive. If you can, learn the Japanese phrase for “Pleased to meet you”: Doozo yoroshiku (doh-oh-zoh yo row’ she coo).

Then your interpreter should express your thanks for the executive’s time and the opportunity to talk together about your mutual companies. “Thank you” is an important phrase for you to learn as well: Arigatoo-gozaimasu (ah ree gah’ to go zai’mahs).

These preliminaries will occur in conjunction with the exchange of cards, which is a key element of the introduction, and can set the tone for the entire visit. The business ...
