The majority of Indonesians are Muslims, but Indonesian businesses do not follow the traditional Islamic workweek pattern of taking off either Thursday and Friday, or Friday and Saturday. Since Friday is the Islamic holy day, many people go to a mosque on Fridays at noon, but the standard workweek is Monday through Friday. Also, remember that many business owners are ethnic Chinese, few of whom are Muslim, so they may conduct business after lunch hours on Fridays and often are open a half day on Saturdays.
