In Chapter 5, we discussed sketching as a way to help expand your understanding of the design challenge you face. By generating lots of ideas on paper—by yourself, and with your team—you’re in an effective position to explore a range of approaches that might work. The next step is to prototype. Prototypes are a simulation of your design intent. They provide a clear vision of what needs to be built, and help you to communicate that view to your client. They raise design problems early, and assist you to understand constraints—because you will indeed hit these at some point.
