To what extent are we recovering our waste for reuse or recycling?
Why is this indicator important?
For any company it is best to minimise waste or not to produce any waste at all, which we discussed in the waste reduction rate KPI (see page 333). However, as it is not always possible to eliminate waste completely, companies need to try to minimise the impact that the waste they are producing is having on the environment. When we produce waste that is sent to landfill sites or to incinerators, this has commercial as well as environmental implications.
