Number/rhyme method

The big picture

In order to remember a list of items, first commit to memory a list of words which rhymes with the numbers one to ten and then associate each item in your new list with the number/rhyme list.

When to use it

The number/rhyme method is useful for quickly committing a list to memory and works best for short-term recall.

How to use it

To use the method, first commit to memory a list of ten words which rhyme with the numbers one to ten. For example:

  1. One is a swan.
  2. Two is a shoe.
  3. Three is a tree.
  4. Four is a door.
  5. Five is a hive.
  6. Six is bricks.
  7. Seven is heaven.
  8. Eight is a gate.
  9. Nine is wine.
  10. Ten is a hen.
