Loci method

The big picture

[Locus: Latin for place; loci: places.] Also known as the memory palace.

When you need to remember a list or collection of ideas, place each one mentally in a different room of your house and to recall them, take a mental tour of the house. If the list is long and complex, associate each item with a different fixture in a room.

When to use it

Use the loci method to remember any list or sequence, including your to-do list, the key points of a presentation you are going to make or a process whose steps must follow a particular sequence.
