Kenzo Tange, 1913–2005

Kenzo Tange was Japan’s best-known modern architect, both in his own country and overseas. He studied architecture and urban design, and made his reputation in Japan before securing major commissions around the world. He is particularly associated with megastructures that combine different functions in one large-scale building, for which there was ample scope in the reconstruction of Tokyo and Hiroshima after the end of World War II.
