Seeing Your Business in the Context of History

Throughout this book, from the first few pages to the last chapter, I’ve made the argument that what you need in order to run your business well is a proven framework—a Back of the Envelope plan and a Vision–Strategy–Execution Model—for simplifying the huge body of thinking that already exists about leadership and management in order to apply it to your circumstances.

The final element in that body of knowledge is a general familiarity with the history of businesses like yours. I find a genealogy of sorts helpful for occasional reference and for a background context in thinking about the big picture.
