Because JUNOS software is provided as a package, software upgrades are relatively straightforward, low-risk events. However, major upgrades still require that you fully reset the updated routing engine (RE), and some planning is necessary to ensure that traffic continues to be transported across the network during the upgrade. In this chapter, we discuss device and network considerations and preparations that you should make before performing a software upgrade.
