I have been privileged to be an early member of an intellectually exciting and practically useful field that also touches on fundamental issues, such as individuals’ competence to manage their own affairs, the balance of power between experts and laypeople in society, and even our view of human nature. The field’s results have been replicated, elaborated, extended, qualified, and sometimes contradicted in companion fields such as behavioral finance, behavioral accounting, behavioral economics, and behavioral law.
