Summary

This chapter has reviewed some of the basics of JSP and how to connect to a database. Keep in mind that using a database is a subject that could fill an entire book on its own. We intentionally kept the code and information presented in this chapter simple and brief. The goal was to give just enough information to get you started down the road to using a database. You should walk away knowing how to connect, update, and retrieve data from a database. With this starting knowledge, you can now begin to learn XML. Throughout the book, we will create examples that use both XML and a database at the same time (in most real-world projects, using a mixture of XML and a database will be a given).
