Summary

This chapter provides a quick overview of why patterns are an essential piece of any development effort providing the building blocks of system architecture. Not only do they provide canned knowledge to address recurring architectural problems, but they also provide a vocabulary in which to talk about design. We have shown how they allow us to provide for an extensible infrastructure and for the training of developers.
