Chapter 8. Modules That Come with Joomla!

WHAT'S IN THIS CHAPTER?

  • Configuring front-end modules: Breadcrumbs, Newsflash, Latest News, Random Image, Search, and Custom HTML

  • Embedding modules in articles

  • Configuring administrator modules

Modules are the little bits of text and functionality that appear, for the most part, on the perimeter of your web pages. Figure 8-1 shows the modules that appear on the home page of the Joomla site you've been working on.

It has only two major items that aren't modules:

  • The logo

  • The story "Joomla! Community Portal"

Everything else is a module.

Modules are rather important in configuring your web page. Several modules come with Joomla by default. In this chapter, I described some of the most commonly used modules. You can also download thousands of modules, many for free, at extensions.joomla.org, the Joomla! Extensions Directory (JED).

CONFIGURING MODULES

Take a look at the Module Manager, as shown in Figure 8-2. You can access the Module Manager under the Extensions menu.

You are looking at the Module Manager for your site; that is, the modules that display on the front end of the web site. You can also see a tab for Administrator modules, which are covered later in the chapter.
