How are multi-level categories displayed in Lists?

In the previous example, we've created a Category List link pointing directly to a category containing articles. Now what if your site contains categories that hold no articles, but do hold subcategories? Let's take the Activities category as an example: it's empty, but it does hold two subcategories (Art Lectures and Club Meetings). If you were to create a Category List link to the Activities main category, this would display as follows:
