IMAGE CONSIDERATIONS

Where will your images come from? Who will take them? Do you need permission to use them? There are many issues to consider before you post photos to your website.

Where to Find Images

With so many great images available on the Internet, you may be tempted to pull down pictures from Facebook, Flickr, Google Image Search, and many other sources to include on your website. However, by doing this, you are almost certainly violating someone's copyright on the photograph. You could get in big trouble for doing this! Besides, it's just rude to use someone's work without asking first.

The safest photos to use (i.e., those requiring the least amount of permissions) are those generated by the organization itself. You could take some pictures with your digital camera, or you could have someone help you with this task.

If taking pictures is not an option — maybe due to time constraints or the quality of the images — and hiring a photographer is cost prohibitive, you can always use stock photography, available from several websites that enable you to download images for personal use on the web, either free or for a low cost. See the Appendix for some stock photography sites that I have used.

Can I Put Up Photos of Anyone?
