ADJUSTING TINYMCE SETTINGS

Open the About Fictitious Elementary School article in the back end of Joomla by going to the Article Manager and clicking the link to the article. Your screen will look like Figure 11-1.

At the top of the editing window are a number of tools for formatting text, including ways to make text bold or italic, bulleted or numbered lists, and so forth. These editing tools belong to a small program running within Joomla called TinyMCE, which is a text and HTML editing program. A text and editing program is often called an editor. A program such as TinyMCE that runs within the Joomla interface is called a plugin.

It's possible to change the editor completely, and use a different plugin instead of TinyMCE. (In fact, you'll do just that in Lesson 27.) For now, however, you'll edit the TinyMCE plugin in order to get a few more tools and buttons available for your use.

Click the Close button in the upper right to leave this article and return to the Article Manager, and then go to Extensions Plugin Manager in the top menu. You should see the Plugin Manager, shown in Figure 11-2.
