USER GROUPS AND EVENTS

Joomla user groups consist of a bunch of Joomla enthusiasts who meet periodically to discuss all things Joomla. Check the website at http://community.joomla.org/user-groups.html to find out if there is a Joomla User Group in your area. Most user groups meet monthly and discuss configuration and coding within Joomla. Every user group's format is different. Some meet at colleges or universities for a formal meeting, while others just meet at a bar for a beer and some geek talk.

No user group in your area? Why not start one of your own? The best way to get help and mentoring with Joomla is through a user group. You don't have to be the smartest, most experienced Joomla person in the room to start the group, either — you just need to be a good organizer and dedicated to getting the group going.

Joomla!Days are growing in popularity around the world as well. These are typically one- or two-day conferences featuring speakers on various Joomla topics. The meetings are typically organized regionally in the United States. The speakers are often regionally based as well, though in many cases some speakers from longer distances are present. Most Joomla!Day organizers try to get someone from Joomla's Project Leadership Team, Community Leadership Team, or an Open Source Matters board member to speak. This gives conference attendees the chance to get their ideas heard by those in charge of Joomla.
