Installing and Configuring Simple Image Gallery

Many websites include image galleries. They're fun and attention-grabbing; and since the world has switched to digital photography, photos are readily available from many sources.

If you have some photos that you think are appropriate for display on your website, there are many ways you could handle this:

  • Sign up for a free service like Yahoo's Flickr or Google's Picasa and link to your gallery from the website.
  • Link to your Facebook page from the website, and have the photos display on Facebook.
  • Upload your photos to the website directly, and display them using a Joomla-based photo gallery.

All of these are legitimate methods for posting your photos online. However, if you post your photos to Flickr, Picasa, or Facebook, your photos are displayed with the look and feel of those websites. By posting photos on your Joomla website, you have the advantage of your website identification and look and feel appearing with your photo gallery. Which method is right for you? As always, it depends! What are your personal preferences? What are you comfortable doing?

In this lesson, I'll show you how to post your pictures in an extension called Simple Image Gallery. It is one of the simplest photo gallery tools available. You can find many others on the Joomla Extensions Directory, some of which offer many more features and options. Personally, though, I like to keep things simple!
