Embedding Modules in Articles

At this point, you're familiar with several of Joomla's core modules, including how to configure them and how they're used. You've put modules in several positions on the website. These positions are determined by the programming in the Joomla template, and you know you can find those positions using the ?tp=1 trick described in Lesson 18.

There's one last trick to learn where modules are concerned. On occasion, you may wish to display information from a module inside a specific article. For example, you may want to display a random image module inside an article, rather than fixed, static images.

To set this up, we'll first create a second random image module. Then I'll show you how to embed this module inside of the Volunteer Opportunities article.

To create the new random image module, you can follow the instructions in Lesson 20. Alternatively, you can make a copy of the existing random image module and reconfigure it.

To make a copy of the existing random image module, place a check mark next to the random image module in the Module Manager, and click the Copy button in the upper right. Once you have done this, you'll have two modules: the original random image and a new Copy of random image, as shown in Figure 23-1. The original random image module is published, while the copy is not.

Click Copy of random image to edit the module. You should see the editing screen, shown in Figure 23-2.
