Planning Your Website

Now that you have an overview of what Joomla is, I know you're just itching to get into the software and start building your website. Unfortunately, that's like starting to frame a house without having a floor plan!

You need to have a plan for your website before you start. The first task is to understand the organization that needs the website. What do they do and what are their goals? Who do they serve? How will the website help achieve the goals of the organization? Once you have the answers to these questions, much of the required content and functionality (like calendars, blogs, and so forth) will become apparent.

This lesson outlines the key questions you should be asking about the site you're about to build; considers the functionality and content that should be included on the website; and discusses how everything should be organized. Once you have considered these issues, you'll be ready to begin working with Joomla shortly.
