To help you clarify your reading requirement, go to the core of your job: what are you paid to do?

  • What must you read?
  • What should you read?
  • What might you read?

A consultant neurologist, for example, must read certain journals in order to keep up to date. He or she should read about developments in related fields, such as the care of long-term patients with spinal injuries. The might category covers a wide range of possibilities, but in this instance it could include reading a book on developments in healthcare in Europe or the US.
