Idea 72: Ideas grow like plants

So nature, wholeness and growth are all key ideas for the holistic mind. Far from being an artificial or manmade activity, synthesis is the central natural process. Breaking down wholes into their parts – that decaying tree trunk in our garden – are only preludes to a series of syntheses.

When we synthesize consciously, putting together elements into a compound, we are only palely imitating what nature is doing all the time. Because we are part of nature, however, that natural process of growth can happen inside our minds as well as our bodies. Ideas can start as seeds and then grow.
