Because the mental approach you must use for problem solving is so similar to the decision-making process, a single model covering them both is possible. Think of it as a bridge spanning a river.

If you are trying to cross a mountain stream, you will jump from rock to rock, zigzagging your way to the far bank. Like thinking inside your head, this is an untidy but purposeful activity.
