Chapter 17. E-Mail Addresses
The use of e-mail addressees as identifiers is now the dominate method used in e-commerce to identify the customers. The simply fact that someone is ordering from an e-commerce Web site implies that they have computer access. That implies that they probably have an e-mail account. If they don’t have an e-mail account, they can apply for a free account at Google, Yahoo, or other Web sites.
The advantages of it as a personal identifier are:
1. The user creates it himself, so he is more likely to remember it easily. Compare this to learning all of your credit card numbers.
2. The string can be quite long and complex for security.
