For any given business, a set of processes define the critical functions and data the business uses. In addition, there are objects, both real and virtual, that play roles in these processes. Then there is the information that participates in the workflows of the business. That information is becoming more structured as well as plentiful. Because there is so much data, it is useful to describe it in such a way that you can retrieve it more efficiently and subsequently exchange it with foreign processes.
