The concept of Web services is simple. It's not unlike a football scenario.

Web services brings all the players together onto a common playing field. It gives each of the players access to a directory of the other players. Then it defines a common set of symbols by which to define plays.

When a coach wants to field a team he simply needs to open up the directory. He can find a group of players with the skills and abilities he needs. Finally, he can send them a playbook to get ready for the game.
