This chapter will introduce you to the ColdFusion MX architecture and the Java platform, providing a focus and orientation to the rather large world of Java.
The purpose of overviewing the ColdFusion MX architecture here is to contextualize why it is important for ColdFusion developers to learn Java at this time. From there, we will quickly move into an orientation of the Java language, how it works, and what you need to get started. We will finish the chapter with an examination of how a simple Java program is put together and a couple of useful exercises.
