Integration Platform
The notion of what constitutes an integration platform is not very clear. Some vendors refer to integration brokers as integration platforms; others point to a combination of middleware (messaging engine, object broker, transaction process monitor). Even portal servers, application servers, and in some cases a set of transformation tools are sold as integration platforms.
For the purpose of this book, our definition of integration platform is very broad: It includes the operating system, different types of middleware, an integration hub including an integration broker, and administration tools.
