Overview of XML

XML is an acronym for Extensible Markup Language. It is a structure (format) and content description standard for ASCII documents (files), and is recommended by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The term XML document can be applied to application data, business documents (letters, memos, and so on), and any other computing information and data (configuration information, log files, and so on) that will be exchanged over the Internet. There are no restrictions for using XML in any particular context, platform, or environment.
