Understanding Adapters

The term adapter may not be familiar unless you were involved in EAI and system integration projects in the last couple of years. Generally, new terms—especially those related to software concepts—are not supported by a single definition. This is true with adapters as well; however, the concept of an adapter has existed for quite a long time. The term adapter has been in use in the computer hardware and other industries to mean a device that enables connection of two incompatible devices.
