Using the JDBC-ODBC Bridge

The JDBC-ODBC Bridge is provided with the Java Development Kit (JDK), so it's readily available to all Java developers. Several products provide the option to install ODBC drivers including most Microsoft applications, such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access, and most other major software packages.

Tip

ODBC is most commonly used on Windows client platforms. If you're using another client platform, you might need to use a different connection protocol. Keep in mind that an ODBC Windows client can connect to non-Windows database servers.
