Summary

In this chapter, you learned about the Java Development Kit (JDK) and the Beans Development Kit (BDK) and how to use them. Some tools are essential to all Java program development, such as the javac compiler, while other tools, such as the BeanBox tool, are not mandatory but are very useful. You will be able to work through most of the example programs in this book using the packages and tools in these two kits. When exceptions arise, the appropriate tools will be described. All of the tools used in this book are available for free from the Sun Microsystems'Java Web site located at http://java.sun.com.
