After you have decided on your tools, software, and platforms, and before you are ready to begin work on the project, it's best to define and conform to guidelines in various areas of Web application development.

Site Structure Guidelines

On a Web server, static HTML pages are served off the file system. A directory on the file system is configured as the root Web directory in the Web server. All files that need to be available on the Web must be stored in the directory structure within the root. A Unified Resource Location (URL) of a file is mapped to its location relative to the root directory.
