Chapter 27. Controlling Applets

Controlling Applets

Java applets are powerful, and with them you can do many things—create animations, communicate with the server, write a simple text editor, display news headlines, and other interesting things that can humor any sedentary worker. Using applets, you can do almost everything you can do with Java.

Applets are widely accepted, too; they are workable in both Netscape and Microsoft browsers. You may be aware that you can do similar things with ActiveX components; however, ActiveX components only feel at home in Microsoft browsers. You will need a plug-in if you want to play ActiveX toys with Netscape Navigator.
