Notes on Java's History
It has been quite a wild ride for those of us who have been following the fortunes of Java. There have been three major changes and any number of minor changes on the route from the first beta release in the spring of 1995 to the present Java 2, version 1.4. Although none of the following is on the test, we are including the history of Java in Table 1.1 to help orient you to the vast amount of Java-related material you will find in bookstores and on the Internet. When considering a book, look for the publication date or other indication of the language version it covers.
