Glossary

This glossary defines terms according to their usage in the context of the Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE platform). Many of the terms have more general usage. For example: the term handle has general currency in modern programming languages, but here is defined in terms of its use in Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB™) technology.

access control

The methods by which interactions with resources are limited to collections of users or programs for the purpose of enforcing integrity, confidentiality, or availability constraints.

ACID

The acronym for the four properties guaranteed by transactions: atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability.
