Chapter 10. Using XML with Wireless Clients

Our efforts to convert our HTML output into XML are all going to seem rather silly if the only thing we do with the XML is convert it back to HTML. The purpose of generating XML was to enable us to defer the decision of what our output format would be, and allow the output formats to be easily extended in the future to support new types of devices.

One area where many different device types are encountered is in support for wireless clients. By taking a brief look at the two most popular wireless markup protocols, we can begin to see the real value in having our application generate XML rather than a specific markup language.
