XML: Applying Order to Data
XML is a markup language that provides information about data in a document. This information is conveyed through a series of tags that are spread throughout the document. These tags are structured in a hierarchical format. This structure, in concert with the tags themselves, conveys meaning about the data.
For instance, information about a customer would include a name and address for the customer. But the customer may have more than one address: a home address and a billing address.
