JNDI and Naming Services
JNDI provides access to a naming service, which allows various objects to be retrieved using a name which has been associated (or bound) with the object. The naming service and its underlying system determine the syntax that will be used to access its resources. This syntax is referred to as the naming convention. For instance, in UNIX the forward slash character (/) denotes separate components (directories). With the Domain Name Service (DNS) servers, a dot (.) character identifies separate components (network domains). The Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standard uses a more complex system of commas (,) and name–value pairs separated by equals (=) signs.
