Live and Learn

One of the things I liked about commercial work was the consistent exposure to things I wasn’t familiar with. One of the things that drove me nuts was the preparation I should have made for problems I had no idea existed.

Confused? Me, too.

For instance, I was told I had to shoot air-to-air stuff of a big commercial jet from a Learjet. I walked into the Learjet and met the pilot, Clay Lacy, who was also the owner of the jet.

“You got soft rubber lens hoods for your lenses?”

“No, sir.”

“Well you better get them, ‘cause I ain’t gonna let you scratch up my windows with your f*¢%ing lenses.”

Off to buy soft rubber hoods. Bring them in. Get approval from Mr. Lacy. Thought my problems were over; found out they hadn’t begun yet.
