Never Give Up the Gesture

If you’ve been keeping track of all the many things I’ve talked about, this image may puzzle you.

I’ve been harping for years about how you have to be responsible for every square millimeter of your frame. In this image, in the lower right, there’s color that doesn’t belong there. It’s something that gives you no reward and you justifiably wonder why it’s there. After all, nothing is neutral in your image, right? If it doesn’t help it, it hurts, right?

So, why the hell is it in there? “It” is in there, and was visible to me at the moment I made this photograph. So, why the hell is “it” in there? “It” is part of my daughter.
